Trim Tabs Stuck or Not Responding

Trim tabs that stop working ruin fuel economy and ride quality. The fix is usually electric or hydraulic — and almost always corrosion-related on the Bay.

Trim tabs that stop working ruin fuel economy and ride quality. The fix is usually electric or hydraulic — and almost always corrosion-related on the Bay.

What to Check

1

Helm switch corrosion

Salt air kills helm switches first. Spray with contact cleaner and test.

2

Hydraulic pump (HyDrive systems)

If you hear the pump but the tabs don't move, it's low fluid or a failed solenoid.

3

Electric ram (Lenco / Bennett)

Failed actuator motors are common after 5–7 seasons. They're sealed units — replace, don't repair.

4

Wiring corrosion

Connections at the transom corrode badly. Pull, clean, and re-bed with marine-grade dielectric grease.
