Marine Refrigerator Not Cooling

A warm fridge on a hot Bay weekend is misery. Most marine fridge failures are airflow, voltage, or a low refrigerant charge.

What to Check

1

Voltage at the compressor

Below 11.8 V the Danfoss BD compressor will shut down or run weakly. Check at the compressor, not the panel.

2

Condenser airflow

Dust or blocked vents around the condenser kill cooling. Vacuum and ensure 4" clearance.

3

Door seal

Failed gasket means the box never gets cold. Replace if the dollar-bill test fails.

4

Low refrigerant

After 8–10 years, R134a charges leak down. Needs a marine refrigeration tech to recharge.

When to Call Us

We troubleshoot Adler-Barbour, Frigoboat, Isotherm, and Norcold — and refer to a licensed refrigeration partner for refrigerant recharging.
