Fresh Water Pump Cycling On and Off

A water pump that clicks on and off when no faucet is open means there's a leak in the pressure system somewhere. Find it before the bilge fills up.

What to Check

1

Toilet flush valve

Slow leak through the head's flush valve cycles the pump every few minutes. Most common cause.

2

Hot water heater pressure relief

If the relief valve weeps, the pump cycles. Check the overflow line.

3

Faucet drip

Even a single dripping faucet will cycle the pump. Tighten or rebuild.

4

Burst hose under the cabin sole

Worst case — a hidden leak filling the bilge. Smell for fresh water and check bilge water taste.
