When your Garmin, Raymarine, Furuno, or Simrad starts glitching, it's almost always firmware, network, or power — not a dead unit. Don't replace it before troubleshooting.
What to Check
Power-cycle the network
NMEA 2000 networks lock up. Pull all 12V power for 60 seconds, then re-energize. Fixes 30% of issues.
Firmware out of date
Outdated MFDs misbehave with newer sensors. Check the manufacturer site for the latest firmware.
NMEA 2000 backbone
Loose terminators, missing power tap, or one bad sensor brings down the whole network.
Chart card corruption
Pull the chart card and reseat it. If the unit boots without the card, the card is the problem.
