My Boat Smells Like Sewage — How to Fix It

If your boat smells, it's almost always permeated sanitation hose. Cheap hose lets odor through the wall after 3–5 years.

If your boat smells, it's almost always permeated sanitation hose. Cheap hose lets odor through the wall after 3–5 years.

What to Check

1

Smell test the hose

Wipe a damp cloth on the sanitation hose and smell it. If it stinks, the hose is permeated.

2

Check vent filter

Holding tank vent filter prevents tank odors from venting outside the hull.

3

Check Y-valve and pump

Failing valves leak waste into the bilge — obvious, awful smell.

When to Call Us

We replace permeated hose with proper Trident or Sealand sanitation hose, install vent filters, and rebuild the system. The smell goes away permanently.
